Himalyan coffees are rare and exclusive, and our Nepalese Everest is no exception. The top graded beans are USDA organic certified and have been carefully aged in special storage conditions for 3 years before roasting and packing.
Aged coffee is becoming increasingly interesting to consumers who are used to the different vintages from wine estates.
The aging process slowly reduces acidity and changes the complexity vs the same beans that are under 12 months old.
In the future we will be able to have flights of different vintages, but 2018 is our first release.
PackagingCracking sustainable packaging was key for launching Halo’s new boxed whole beans. Take for example the very stark realisation that the vast majority of coffee beans are sold in foil/plastic lined bags which are not recyclable and will end up in landfill.
Halo chose to take on the challenge of delivering home compostable beans in a box and do things a lot differently, by coming up with a solution of using recycled card wrapped in our special home compostable layer. We did away with the pointless plastic valves too!
All coffee bags, even biodegradable ones, have a plastic valve in so customers can smell the coffee and any excess co2 can be released. We got rid of the valve and worked instead on packing our coffee at the right time so that any co2 from the roasting process is already released. Another win to reducing packaging being sent to landfill.
We wanted to give ourselves time to create the right kind of planet friendly packaging, that doesn’t compromise on the freshness and complexity of our coffees and we believe that’s is exactly what we have done.
